The Flag of Turkey - The Turkey Flag

The Flag of Turkey Description: a fully red flag with a vertical white crescent (moon) with the closed portion of the crescent pointing toward the hoist side. The Turkey flag also has a white five-pointed star centered just outside the crescent opening with two of the star's points are directly spaced at the points of the crescent.

The present flag of Turkey was officially brought into use on June 5, 1936 and can be flown from all Turkish Government buildings.

The flag of Turkey has it's design features squarely in the Islamic style of depicting two of the symbols of Islam i.e. the moon and the star. The red colour of the flag is more based on the flag of freedom - the red flag, historically steeped in the blood of the innocents. The particular shade of red used on the Turkish flag dates back to the time of the Ottoman Empire and the 17th century.
